Student publications
At UTS, we encourage you to build a portfolio during your course. Students publish regularly in the media, student publications, on community radio and online. Our emphasis is on learning how to be a journalist through practical experience.
Our publications include:
Festival News
Festival News is a four-page broadsheet produced over five days during the Sydney Writers' Festival by UTS journalism students. It is edited by Senior Lecturer Sandra Symons who sets up and runs a daily newsroom during its production. Students experience first-hand what it is like to work on a daily newspaper. Students cover live events at the Writers' Festival, come back to the UTS computer labs to write their story, file them and see their stories being read in Festival News and online the next day. Students also cover events for broadcast on radio 2SER and produce film reports for inclusion in a video film on the Festival.

The result will be Newsday 2007, a online news publication and radio news reports. The radio reports will later be broadcast 2 SER which is based at UTS.
